Non-medical caregiving for U.S. veterans includes a range of supportive services that enhance their daily lives and overall well-being. This can involve assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as meal preparation, housekeeping, transportation to appointments, and companionship to combat loneliness. Caregivers can also provide emotional support, help with managing schedules, and offer respite care for family members. Additionally, they may assist with errands, mobility support, and engaging veterans in social and recreational activities to promote a sense of community and purpose. These services ensure that veterans maintain their independence while receiving the care and attention they deserve.

The caregivers were very hit or miss. We were only with the company for about two and a half weeks, as my mom requires maximum assistance while I’m at my 9–5 job. 2.5 weeks is all this lasted From the beginning, the introduction call felt misleading and gave a false impression of who Randy really is. Most communication goes through Caleb, who does a great job managing situations ,but you should be cautious when he’s not the one you’re dealing with. It often felt like Caleb was handling damage control for his father. In just two weeks, we went through seven different caregivers. Our assigned caregiver missed a few days because her young children were very ill(completely understandable and not her fault). However, Randy repeatedly blamed her and criticized her as irresponsible. During that time, he sent a replacement who slept on my couch for several hours and ignored my mom’s calls for help. I had to leave work to come home and assist my mother, while the caregiver remained on the couch for nearly two hours without helping. The following day, no caregiver was sent at all due to staffing shortages. Randy told me it wasn’t his fault because he “works with humans” and can’t control when people call out. While that may be true, it left my mother home alone for hours, panicked and without assistance. When my mom’s regular caregiver returned, she shared that she had been threatened not to call out again because Randy was “tired of getting his butt handed to him.” The next week, when that caregiver had a scheduling conflict, another replacement was sent. She mentioned her prior experience at the University of Utah and other skilled nursing facilities, but despite that, she neglected to use the safety devices put in place for my mom, who is a high fall-risk patient. During a single eight-hour shift, my mother fell twice. I was never contacted, nor were emergency services called. According to Randy, “this is NOT our protocol.” Instead, the caregiver woke my boyfriend *who works nights* to help lift my mom off the floor. I happened to arrive home shortly after the second fall. Before I could finish a call with my mom’s social worker, Randy instructed the caregiver to leave. We then took my mom to the ER, where we spent the next seven hours. Throughout that time, Randy continued to deny the situation, claiming my mother told him she had not fallen (essentially suggesting she made it up). He also maintained that it’s not standard procedure to notify family or emergency services after a fall ,but again, he questioned whether a fall even happened. We have since discontinued services with Amada Care. It’s unfortunate, because there were three caregivers we genuinely appreciated and would have liked to continue working with. In the end, my mother is the one who suffers most from Randy’s behavior and lack of professionalism.
